The Senate on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 debated and passed for second reading seven legislation. The Bills whose general principles were deliberated upon and progressed to the next legislative stage include:
1) A Bill for an Act to Repeal the National Commission for Refugees Act, CAP N21 LFN 2004 and enact the National Commission for Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees and Migrants to provide for a framework for management, rehabilitation, return, reintegration and resettlement of victims of displacement, refugee migration and for other related matters, 2017, (S.B. 338), sponsored by Sen. Ubali M. Shittu (Jigawa North East). The Bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Special Duties to report back in four weeks.
2) A Bill for an Act to Regulate the Manufacture, Importation, Distribution and Quality Control of Fertilizer in Nigeria and for other related matters, 2017 (S.B.335), sponsored by Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa West). The legislation has been referred to the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development to report back in four weeks.
3) A Bill for an Act to Amend the Fire Arms Act CAP F 28 LFN 2004 to provide for increase of fine and destruction of fire arms illegally imported into the country or in possession of individuals without valid license and for other matters connected therewith, 2017 (S.B. 489), sponsored by Sen. Gbolahan Dada (Ogun West). The Bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to report back in four weeks.
